Missions – International
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” ~ Matthew 28:19-20
Below are just a few highlights of the mission efforts we are either currently partnered with or have supported in the past:
MISSION: Mexico City, Mexico
Canyon supports Princeton and Dani Palmer, full time Adventures in Missions (AIM) Coordinators for Mexico City. They are involved in evangelism, teaching and preaching, and working to grow the church in Mexico City. They run an outreach program which teaches English to students and business people using Scriptures as the teaching text and includes a café/resource library as its outreach headquarters. Canyon’s Youth Group went on a mission trip in the summer of 2016 to help with their good work in Mexico City. We invite you stream an audio presentation of Princeton and hear more about their good work by clicking here.
For several years, Canyon supported the creation and distribution of solar-powered audio bible players in Zimbabwe, Ghana, Liberia, and Nigeria. In conjunction with the Sunset International Bible Institute, we’ve sent Canyon members to Nigeria on two separate mission trips to distribute these solar players, share the gospel, and encourage local ministers in their work. We continue to support local ministers and Bible schools in Nigeria such as the CAO Essien Bible College, Darrell Memorial Bible Institute, and other workers in the field.
MISSION: Aruba, Dutch Caribbean
Canyon is pleased to help support missionaries Tim and Mary Henderson in their work in Aruba. Tim initially started his mission work in Trinidad, which was a kind of homecoming, having grown up on the island. His parents Parker and Donna Henderson were missionaries for 32 years in Trinidad and Tobago. After working and apprenticing for four years in Trinidad, the Hendersons were given the opportunity to carry on the work in Aruba in July 2009, at a time when no full-time church workers were living on that island. They work in conjunction with the San Nicolas Church of Christ.
MISSION: San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic
Canyon has and ongoing relationship with missionaries from Arizona to the Dominican Republic. In 2017, we provided the means to repair a home in the D.R. after a storm. In Spring of 2018, and in conjunction with Solid Rock International, we sent a short-term missionary team, including Canyon members, to help construct a nurses’ medical station and improve conditions in four different schools in the area. The team also participated in devotionals, worshipped at a local church, and shared God’s word with the people in the barrios, the marketplace, and more.
MISSION: Darfur, Sudan
In 2007, two of Canyon’s members traveled with missionary Sam Shewmaker and his mission team to Darfur, Sudan. Their aim was to touch the hurting Muslims with the compassion of Christ by simply serving to ease their earthly pain, and by partnering alongside local African ministers, and encouraging and supporting them in their work.
MISSION: AIMing for the Future
As part of the Sunset International Bible Institute in Lubbock, TX, the Adventures in Missions (AIM) program is an apprentice missions program for college-age young people. AIM is a minimum two year commitment to study and grow and then to go teach and serve in a mission field abroad. Canyon has been pleased to invest in future missionaries by financially supporting students going through this program.
