It is estimated that 43% of Navajo people live below the Federal poverty line and live without some of the essentials most of us take for granted. Many members of the Navajo community live in remote areas without electricity or running water. Winters are especially hard, with wood or coal needed to heat their homes. These are our neighbors. Let's show them love and compassion!
The Canyon Church can unleash compassion and provide aid to the Navajo people in one of two ways:
We are collecting gently used or new coats, sweaters, winter gloves, shoes, and blankets. Donations can be dropped off in the auditorium before or after worship services on Sunday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 11. The items will be given to the Salt River Church of Christ, which has an established ministry with the Navajo people and will distribute the items. You can learn more about them at saltriverchurchofchrist.com.
If you would like to donate funds to go towards the purchase of coal or wood to heat a household, please click “Give” to donate online. Be sure to type “Navajo Missions” in the “Add a Note” field before clicking submit, so we know to designate your gift for that purpose.
If you have any questions about this donation drive or outreach efforts to the Native American community, please contact Canyon elder Jay Carter.
